The Universal Asset Replacer is a non-destructive, automated pipeline utility built for Autodesk Maya. Environment artists are used to manually dragging final assets into the position of its blockout and adjusting the rotation from there. With this tool, it bridges the gap between Level Design and Art Production by using naming conventions to instantly swap simple gray-box blockouts (Proxies) with their final, detailed 3D models (High-Poly Masters), a critical workflow optimisation when dealing with heavy architectural elements like detailed environment scenes, or ornate props.
It keeps the position and rotation of the final mesh the same as the blockout mesh, which is why it is important to use freeze transformation only after the replacement. The environment scene can then be exported as a whole.
